A diverse and inclusive lab, one that provides multiple perspectives on science, is an intellectually heathy one. We recognize the challenges associated with increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Students from marginalized communities may lack access to appropriate coursework and research opportunities. They are historically underrepresented in science. Recruiting students from diverse backgrounds requires outreach efforts, including contacts with schools that serve underrepresented students. We strive to overcome these challenges and make sure that students feel encouraged and welcome to apply to our lab, and once accepted, continue to feel valued.
